Nick McGrath

ASAI Bangkok Chinatown hotel in the heart of the city’s renowned Chinatown district, just a short walk from Wat Mangkon MRT station, is collaborating with renowned Bangkok-based Australian photographer Nick McGrath to showcase a series of captivating images of the bustling markets, tranquil alleyways, and the intricate details that define Bangkok’s historic Chinatown district.

Held at ASAI Bangkok Chinatown Hotel’s vibrant Courtyard on 27 January 2022, from 17:00 – 20:00, the event will also feature an exclusive talk in which McGrath will share stories behind his captivating images and what it takes to get the perfect Chinatown shot.

A Bangkok resident since 2011, McGrath has worked with Asia Life Magazine and Getty News Images, and his pictures have been featured in Time magazine, Huffington Post, The Daily Mail, and The Washington Post, amongst others.

More than just an artist, McGrath is a passionate advocate for cultural community development. In 2012, he transformed a century-old shophouse into a hub for creativity, becoming an integral part of Chinatown’s artistic pulse. His co-founding of Cho Why community art space in 2014 paved the way for trendy bars and cafes, revitalising the area and injecting lasting value.

Giving back to the community is integral to this event. A portion of artwork sales will benefit the Sati Foundation, a grassroots organisation supporting healthcare and education for underserved children in Thailand, a cause close to McGrath’s heart. The photos will be on display at ASAI Bangkok Chinatown until 31 March 2024.
